Starting point
The Porsche 991 GT3 RS came to the workshop with a paint finish you would not expect on a new car: dull patches from sanding marks, surface scratches and holograms, no deep gloss. Particularly critical were adhesive tape residues that had etched the clear coat. Added to this is the construction of the GT3 RS: beneath the paint lie plastic, carbon fibre, carbon and magnesium, and the rear and side windows are made of polycarbonate, on which the wrong glass cleaner has fatal consequences. The demands were high, because the paint was then to be sealed with the LZ 730 brilliance sealant and covered with stone chip protection film. Holograms, dull patches and etching do not disappear under any film.
Work
The preparatory work on the new-car paint took many hours: scratches, holograms and the etching were corrected until the paint was ready for film and sealant. Wrapped were the front bumper, front luggage compartment lid, wings left and right, mirrors, A-pillars left and right, the roof with 25 centimetres and the sills left and right. The factory stone guard on the rear quarters was removed completely, as it is too small, and the film was taken up over the air intake. The paint received the LZ 730 brilliance sealant, which is compatible with paint protection films. The film itself was finished with a special film sealant so that it too gets the matching gloss.
Result
The aim was that from about a metre away it should not be possible to tell whether and where film has been applied; wrapped and unwrapped areas should not stand out from one another. The photographs from the report at the time show a mirror-smooth film surface and the rich deep gloss of the sealant. For film care the workshop supplied a spray gloss; for loosening insect residue it recommends an insect and dirt remover, which attacks neither film nor paint. A tip for GT3 drivers: after washing, water keeps running out of the mirror base for a long time; briefly wrapped with two soft microfibre cloths, no limescale marks form on the doors.
