Starting point
Collectors and enthusiasts of the BMW 628 know the problem with the parcel shelf covers: with sunlight they warp over time or crack. Some parts are still available from BMW, but often only in black; others have to be painstakingly tracked down and then reworked. On this car the original parcel shelf covers in blue were still available, but the headrest guides only in white. They had to be colour matched.
Work
Do-it-yourself dyeing products usually do not get the job done on parts like these, because the final lacquer that sets the gloss level accounts for a large part of the colour effect. This final lacquer also has to be mixed and matched. Work like this therefore belongs in the hands of specialists in leather and plastic technology. We pigmented the white headrest guides to match the blue parcel shelf covers.
Result
Anyone who puts a lot of effort into the search for old spare parts should not skimp on the colouring. Many customers are sceptical at first as to whether something like this can succeed, and we too have respect for tasks like these. The photos show the dyed headrest guides next to the blue parcel shelf covers.
