Wiesmann Roadster MF3

A Wiesmann Roadster MF3 from the manufactory in Dülmen came to Schwaikheim. Since production began in 1993, around 800 examples have left the factory; in the readers’ poll of the specialist magazine sport auto for the sportiest cars of 2009, the MF3 took second place in the category of convertibles and roadsters up to 120,000 euros. This car gets driven: driver training, best laps at the Hockenheimring, outings with the Wiesmann Club. That had left its marks on the glass-fibre reinforced body, and the MF3 looked tired. The LZ 730 brilliance sealant was to bring the roadster back to a high gloss. The inside of the bonnet and the painted areas of the wings beneath the bonnet were also to be treated and sealed, a job that has to be carried out with the utmost care.

Work

Bringing a GRP body back to new-car character is demanding, because the vehicle model, the paint and the body material each bring their own surface problems. That is why the achievable result was illustrated in advance in the paint consultation using other current projects. All signs of use were gently removed, the aluminium and chrome elements reworked, and the paint, including the areas beneath the bonnet, sealed with the LZ 730 brilliance sealant. In painstaking detail work, the gecko emblems on the front and rear, the manufactory’s trademark, were freed of limescale and polish residue.

Result

The MF3 shows high gloss and dream-car character again. In the workshop it was regularly mistaken for a classic car because of its retro looks; according to the report at the time, a modern M3 engine with 343 PS lies beneath. If your Wiesmann shows similar surface problems, Schwaikheim is the right place for you.
