Tesla Model 3

Starting point

The Tesla Model 3 had only 300 kilometres on the display when it came to us. Many expect flawless paint on a new car. Here, heavy sanding marks and holograms ran across the entire car. Solid black is extremely prone to scratches in any case, every speck of dust shows, and this paint is even more sensitive than BMW Schwarz Uni 2. Added to this was a very low paint thickness: on the sills, boot and bonnet the primer showed through in places, and on the doors we measured 40 µm, where around 110 to 130 µm is usual. Deeper scratches cannot be removed with so little material, or the clear coat is gone.

Work

The paint depth measurement and the correction are documented in the video. A ceramic coating makes the paint less sensitive to fine scratches, but like every coating it has its limits: no coating stops heavier scratches or stone chips. Anyone who wants that protection needs a paint protection film at least 200 µm thick. We offer three variants for this: a 200 µm film with a 10-year manufacturer’s warranty, a 300 µm film with a 10-year manufacturer’s warranty for track tools and speeds above 300 km/h, and a 200 µm film with a 12-year manufacturer’s warranty and a ceramic-like coating that no longer needs to be sealed. Wrapped were the bumper, bonnet, wings, sills, driver’s and passenger doors, A-pillar and loading sill, all in the 200 µm paint protection film with a 10-year manufacturer’s warranty.

Result

Finally, we coated paint and film with our ceramic coating. The wrapped areas are protected against scratches and stone chips by the 200 µm film, and the rest of the paint is less sensitive to fine scratches thanks to the coating.
