Ferrari 812 Superfast

The Ferrari 812 Superfast was unveiled at the 2017 Geneva Motor Show and replaced the F12 Berlinetta in the model hierarchy. Twelve cylinders, 800 PS and 718 Nm, plus a seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox and all-wheel steering: 0 to 100 km/h in 2.9 seconds, 100 to 200 km/h in 5 seconds. Our customer’s car is painted in solid black. On this colour every flaw shows, however small, whether in the paint correction, the paint protection film or the coating. The brief was to protect the car for ten years.

Work

We covered the Ferrari completely in LLumar paint protection film; only the rear bumper was left out. For us and the customer it was essential that the film is cut on our tangential plotter. That way no cutting has to be done on the paint, and every cut piece comes out identical. One complete side of the car, including parts of the roof and the A-pillar, was laid from a single piece of film. After application we checked the film for flaws before our Ceramic Carbon coating was applied. We offer this coating in variants for all surfaces, whether glass, plastic, metal or special paints. According to the manufacturer’s figures in the report at the time, the LLumar film has a self-healing surface, does not yellow, is car wash safe, recognised by insurers and removable without residue. The material warranty was given at the time as 5 to 10 years, the durability of the coating as up to 4 years.

Result

Every step had to be carried out with extreme precision on the solid black paint, and in places it was a bit of a battle. The result is a deep black paint under the ceramic coating, as the photos from the report at the time show. For the photos we wetted the road so that not too much pollen would be stirred up.
