Starting point

This Corvette Stingray C3 came to us with heavily scratched, dull paint. The project report at the time describes the paintwork as thermoplastic paint. Historic paint substance calls for individual assessment: thermoplastic acrylic lacquer can react sensitively to heat and to certain solvents. Not every Corvette C2 or C3 still wears this paint today; earlier repaints have to be taken into account. These notes on the material do not describe any additionally documented work steps.

Work

What is documented is the paint correction and the subsequent protection with LZ 730. The treatment was matched to the car in front of us. Which protective products are suitable for a historic paint depends on the specific paint build-up and its condition. A general ban on ceramic coatings on such vehicles cannot be derived from this; what counts is the assessment of each individual case.

Result

The original pictures show the result of correcting the previously dull, scratched paint. Existing cracks in the paint build-up cannot be permanently remedied by polishing. On historic vehicles, preserving the substance matters more than a blanket promise of total flawlessness. The original video of the project is linked on YouTube.
