BMW E 92

Starting point

A customer sent us pictures of a BMW E92 the likes of which we had never seen on this scale. The brake discs and pads were worn out, and one last drive was supposed to be possible. The friction of the bare pad on the disc produced hot metal particles, which hit the brake line. The line burst and brake fluid ran out. Wheels and paint were covered over large areas with brake fluid and metal particles. In the following weeks, ordinary iron fallout removers brought no success, and according to the report at the time a car care business quoted around 1,200 euros for the rework.

Work

We were cautious, because brake fluid combined with metal particles is a different kind of contamination from ordinary iron fallout. The customer had already heard and read a lot of good things about iron fallout remover gel and decided to try it himself. He carried out the treatment on his own. It took 5 litres of the gel. After just one application there was clear success, even though the contamination had been working in for several weeks. In an incident of this kind, two bottles are not enough to solve the whole problem; but a start had been made, and according to the report at the time the rest was no longer difficult to resolve.

Result

The gel was able to solve this problem too: metal particles and brake fluid residues could be removed from the wheels and paint, so the quoted rework by a car care business was in all likelihood spared the customer. Since iron fallout is a recurring issue, we recommend keeping a canister of the gel on hand.
