Starting point
This Mercedes G-Class, nicknamed “s’Fröschle” by its owner, has a good many desert journeys behind it. That the off-roader left tracks in the sand along the way is to be assumed; in the original report a song by Howard Carpendale stands godfather to that thought. Conversely, the expedition did not pass the vehicle by without a trace either: desert sand does not stay on the surface but sits in every crevice. The brief was to get the G-Class clean for the next desert trip.
Work
Anyone who thinks that is quickly done is mistaken. Desert sand does not cling, it spreads into every seam and gap of the vehicle. Getting the G-Class fit again after the desert trip was correspondingly laborious. Those who travel have stories to tell, and so does anyone who puts an off-roader back in order after a desert tour. How much sand was taken out of the vehicle in the end, we do not know.
Result
According to the report at the time, the cleaning operation was a complete success. The G-Class looks like new again, and the many desert journeys are hardly noticeable on the off-roader any more. It is thus ready for the next desert trip.
