McLaren 570S (two cars)

Starting point

Two McLaren 570S came to us for our paint protection film package. We find more and more often that supercars are driven without paint protection film or receive it too late, as with these two. Cars such as McLaren, Porsche or Lamborghini pick up stone chips very quickly. That is not only because they are driven faster, but also because of today’s paint systems and paint thicknesses; we frequently measure values below 60 µm. Then a quick lane change by the car ahead, throwing up road grit, is all it takes. The purple McLaren already had an old film on it.

Work

On the purple 570S we first removed the old film. Underneath was paint that had been sanded dull, a condition in which no car gets wrapped or coated at our workshop. After a thorough pre-wash with iron fallout removal came the paint correction, which brought back colour depth and gloss. Only then did the wrapping begin. Our film plotter pre-cut the tailored suit of paint protection film, so that almost no cutting is needed on the paint; for the best look and protection the pattern was specially reworked once more. The film used was LLumar Valor, according to the report at the time about 200 µm thick, with a self-healing surface and a ceramic-like coating, no yellowing or loss of gloss, recognised by insurers, and according to the manufacturer it can remain on the paint for up to twelve years, with a warranty card and roll number through which the authenticity of the film can be verified with the manufacturer. We are a certified LLumar and Gyeon team and hold the 1S certification for electric vehicles.

Result

Both McLarens are now protected against stone chips with paint protection film. On the purple car, the comparison to the right of the light spot shows the difference between the dull, sanded starting condition and the corrected surface. The photographs were taken in the sun without Photoshop or filters. Both projects are documented in videos on YouTube. The film properties stated reflect the report at the time.
