According to the report at the time, the Audi R8 V10 Spyder is powered by a 5.2 litre naturally aspirated engine with 610 PS and accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.3 seconds. Even a brisk drive can bring the first paint damage. To protect the green paint in the shade Micrommata Green from stone chips, the car was to receive paint protection film. The classic film thickness is sufficient for this; for track use or a lot of motorway driving, a thicker version with the same properties and the same clarity is also available.

Work

Before wrapping, the paint was brought to a flawless condition, because according to the manufacturer the film can stay on the paint for up to ten years, and underneath it no more polishing is possible. Paint defects under the film would impair the gloss level and the overall picture. After polishing and degreasing, the film pieces were cut on the film plotter; the plotting program for the car was adapted to the individual component where necessary. When laying the film, our standard is that it remains invisible from about a metre away. The bonnet, bumper, carbon lip and windscreen frame were wrapped. We used the clear LLumar paint protection film, which according to the manufacturer’s figures in the report at the time is self-healing, does not yellow and was listed with a ten year material warranty. It is also car wash safe, resistant to high and low temperatures and can be removed again almost without residue.

Result

The pictures from the report at the time show no difference in colour or gloss between wrapped and unwrapped components. The bonnet, bumper, carbon lip and windscreen frame of the R8 V10 Spyder are protected, and the paint beneath is polished and flawless.
