Starting point
Before autumn and winter, leaves, cold, rain, snow, salt and grit take their toll on paint. Car paint is porous by nature. Without regular preservation or sealing, dirt, salt, rain and snow find a hold in the valleys of the paint, and weathering begins. Stone chips that have accumulated over the year start to rust from rain and snow, or grow as water creeps underneath. Iron fallout forms more readily from road salt, rain and slush on surfaces that are insufficiently polished and preserved. On this Audi, the existing stone chips were to be treated before the first snow and the paint protected for the winter.
Work
The paint treatment was agreed with the customer with regard to the condition of the paint. After a thorough paint cleaning, all the stone chips became visible. They were touched up by airbrush in the body colour: the chips remain, but they are filled with body colour and can neither rust nor be undermined by water. A complete repaint of the bonnet or bumper can be postponed this way. Paint damage on door edges is also repaired in this way, so that a paint chip is barely noticeable any more. This touch-up is possible all year round. The paint was then sealed with the LZ 730 paint sealant; alternatively, preservation with a high-gloss polish is possible.
Result
The stone chips are taken care of, the paint is sealed and ready for salt, rain and snow. If there are too many stone chips or the rust is too advanced, the workshop recommends a professional repaint. Future stone chips can only be prevented with a paint protection film, whether on a new car, a one-year-old car, a used car or a classic car.
