Aston Martin Superleggera: full PPF wrap

The Aston Martin Superleggera has a 5.2 litre V12 biturbo with 725 PS, developed in house by Aston Martin as in the DB11. The chassis is a further development of the DB11 with many carbon components, yet the car still weighs around 1,825 kilograms. A new car with 90 kilometres came to us. The paintwork is typical Aston Martin with virtually no orange peel; the finishing work, however, was not. We found areas polished through, heavy sanding marks and overspray on the lower bumper that points to a factory repaint. In addition, the lettering on the brake calipers is not clear coated and is therefore sensitive to strong wheel cleaners; Aston Martin recommends cleaning the wheels without wheel cleaner.

Work

A paint depth gauge measures the entire paint build-up, not the individual clear coat layer. That is why we polished the paint very gently in some areas, so as not to remove even more clear coat; edges that had been polished through were touched up. After the paint correction, the whole car was wrapped in a 300 µm paint protection film, which according to the manufacturer can stay on the paint for up to ten years. The most demanding component was the bonnet, made from three pre-cut film sections. Two sections would have been possible, but then the join would sit in the middle of the bonnet and the lettering would have to be cut out as a rectangle. Removing the lettering and placing it on top of the film was not wanted and can cause warranty problems. Laying the three sections cleanly against each other was very time consuming. The lettering on the rear bumper was pre-cut by the plotter. Then our Ceramic Carbon coating went onto the film, for easier care, beading and gloss.
